Fellowship Details: For the 2026–2027 academic year, the Wilson Center will select a new cohort of fellows. Here’s what you need to know:
- Stipend and Duration: Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $10,000 for 12 months, from June 1, 2026, to May 30, 2027.
- Working Arrangement: The fellowship is fully remote, with the Center sponsoring two trips to Washington, D.C.—one at the start and one at the end of the program.
- Fellow Responsibilities: Fellows are expected to complete their proposed research, present their work in progress, engage with the policy community, and produce policy-relevant outputs like reports or articles. They’ll also translate complex academic research into accessible insights, supported by the Center.
Access to Resources: Fellows gain access to the Wilson Center Library, Library of Congress loan privileges, and digital collections, ensuring they have the tools needed for impactful research.
Application Deadline: All applications, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted online by January 16, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. Results will be announced in early March 2026.
Eligibility Criteria:
- For Individuals: Academics must hold a PhD and have published a book or monograph beyond their dissertation. Practitioners, journalists, policymakers, or nonprofit leaders need at least 10 years of relevant experience and a demonstrated impact in their field.
- For Project Proposals: Projects must be nonpartisan and align with one of the Center’s four scholarship pillars: strategic competition, economic statecraft, technology and innovation, or regional scholarship. Proposals should aim for high-quality outputs like book manuscripts or long-form articles. Controversially, projects cannot include dissertation rewrites, creative arts, or textbook preparation—a point that may spark debate among interdisciplinary applicants.
Selection Process: Applications undergo a rigorous, multi-stage review by internal and external experts, with final decisions approved by the Center’s Board of Trustees. Selection criteria include the significance and originality of the research, its policy relevance, and the applicant’s ability to engage with policymakers.
